Indian Cricket team

Here is the current roster of Indian Cricket team:
# *Rahul Dravid
# Sourav Ganguly
# Virender Sehwag
# VVS Laxman
# Yuvraj Singh
# Mohammad Kaif
# Jai P Yadav
# Suresh Raina
# Venugopal Rao
# +MS Dhoni
# Anil Kumble
# Harbhajan Singh
# Irfan Pathan
# Zaheer Khan
# Ashish Nehra
# Lakshmipathy Balaji

1. What is Ganguly doing in the official team when he is banned from playing by the ICC?

2. Ever since I remember, the Indian cricket team contained one or two or sometimes even more players from Mumbai. They have always played major roles in successes and failures of the team. In the current team, there is not even one player from Mumbai. Is it because suddenly there are no good quality players from Mumbai or is it politics?

i think its neither of the two - its just that there is a boatload of talented players coming in from all parts of india - there isnt really a single geographical region thatn you can single out. although i am inclined to say that 'northern states' are now dominating!

south - dravid, laxman, kumble, rao, balaji (5)
north - h singh, sehwag, yuvaraj, nehra, dhoni, raina, yadav, kaif (8)
west - khan, pathan(?) (2)
east - ganguly (now that i would call politics :)!) (1?)

mumbai has been doing very well in the ranji trophy ... and that too its been only on the basis of bowling success, and superb tailend batsmen who make up for failures at thetop. yet, it should be noted that mumbai are not ranji champions, lost to punjab last year in a pathetic low scoring semifinal.
