Flu vaccine shortage
ABC News: Some Prison Inmates Will Get Flu Shots
Why??? There are so many senior citizens around the country that are scrambling to get flu shots and the vaccine is being wasted on prison inmates. A 79 year old woman died of heat-stroke in California after standing in line for flu vaccine for 4 hours. Is this messed up or what?!?!?

How are prison inmates different from senior citizens for a flu vaccine priority?? Please explain and try not to piss me off ;)
Posted by: mayur at October 25, 2004 03:09 PMMayuresh: There is no way to explain this without pissing you off. So, here we go... When someone is convicted of a crime and sent to prison, they climb down on the ladder of priority as a human being in my view. That is what they get in return for their actions of breaking the law. Their well being is of less importance to me. When there is a life threatening disease affecting two people: one in prison and other out. And I have only one dose of medicine to give to cure it, I'll give it to the person who is not in prison. Now, you will ask about convicts released from the prisons. Where do they stand? I think they have suffered through their supposed punishment in prison, so they are on par with the rest of the population.
Posted by: Parag at October 25, 2004 04:55 PMthere was an incident where inmates got non-life threatening ailment surgery done while in prison on taxpayers' money...I think even few cosmetic operations were conducted for prison inmates. Can't find the link now but it is clearly reflective of messed up priorities.

this statement is absolutely ridiculous.
What I would have liked to ask you if you hadnt said what you said above, do you believe that after controlling for common factors that prevail in prison and world outside that can cause flu, the senior citizens outside have higher or at least as much chances of getting flu than inmates?
Digressing from this issue, please allow me to ask you an irrelevant question?
Do you support tax payers money being used for funding free syringe exchange programs for drug addicts where addicts could return their used syringes in exchange for new ones?
