Stop it, blasphemers!!!
There hasn't been much coverage of this in the US media, but, this fight has been going on since last September. A series of 12 cartoons were published in a Danish newspaper, Jyllands-Posten, that portray prophet Mohammad and then followed in a Norwegian paper. Everyone in the Islamic world wants the newspaper and the government of Denmark and Norway to issue an apology for disrespecting Islam. On the other side, the Danish newspaper said that 'Freedom of expression' allows the publication of those cartoons and there is no question of an apology as they haven't done anything wrong. I don't know if a fatwa (a la Salman Rushdie) has been issued but, I think it'll happen soon if it hasn't yet. The governments say that they are not responsible for what the newspapers publish, which is how it should be.
I always support 'freedom of expression'. If you don't like something, don't look at it. It is not as if the newspaper publishers are forcing people to look at those cartoons.

This one here is just hilarious.

This cartoon is funny. But the rest suck. The danes must not be very funny.
Posted by: Mark at February 3, 2006 08:36 PMI thought this problem erupted last week when Libya shut their embassy in Denmark down. Didn't know that it was going on for 4 months.
Freedom of the Press not withstanding I don't think they should have published those cartoons. As it those chaps are paranoid bastards. What is the necessity to provoke them anymore.
I suppose this means next time we are going to see a Dutch tourist beheaded somewere.
Posted by: Premnath Kudva at February 3, 2006 10:46 PMThe cartoon that were issued did not only digrace the muslims but also the Islamic Ideology. Islam gives you the liberty of freedom of speech more then any other religion but still as long as it does not hurt any one. Islam is the only religion which says that not respecting other religion like christianity will make u loose faith in your religion.

"Islam gives you the liberty of freedom of speech more then any other religion but still as long as it does not hurt any one."
You know why this is an incredibly stupid answer?
Because we have the freedom of speech without anything like "as long as, under the condition, but". We just have freedom of speech!! If you and other moslems dont't like the idea of being satirical - just go and live somewhere else. You have that freedom, too...
Posted by: Peter Jaeger at February 4, 2006 03:05 PMWell I guess we "westerners"just don't understand how the muslim mind works.
sishah said islam respects other religions,so dodes that include the jewish faith?
do as i say not as i do?
The insensitive cartoon of Mohammed with a bomb in his turban depicts Muslims as violent people, but what is more unfortunate is that Muslim reaction has confirmed it.
Posted by: Yolanda at February 5, 2006 09:31 AMYolanda, it's a mistake to put every muslim in the same boat. Bear in mind that most of the Muslim people are sensible and use their brain, as do the majority of Christians in the West. The muslims on TV are to Islam what the KKK in southern USA is to christianism. What we see on TV is another manipulation of our opinion so as to turn us one way or the other. The polarization of your opinion will just serve the governements to justify any extreme action.
Posted by: chris at February 5, 2006 11:32 AMIF we could teach these ignorant people to read they would be able to get information from some place besides the local religious idiots that run their countries.
Posted by: Dan at February 5, 2006 12:15 PMI can't help but think that if the Muslim minds who demonstrate and publicly voice disapproval could have the benefit of the minds of Islamic women, free to manage their own lives, that everyone would be so much better off, and reactions (mental processing in general) would be more in proportion. That so many Islamic people could be so attentive to a cartoon amidst so many truly substantial challenges to their populations, is amazing and sad in my opinion.
Posted by: hughess at February 8, 2006 04:04 AMI support these cartoons and am tired of Muslims attempting to control my own freedoms of religion or speech. I am especially concerned about how Muslims (mainly those that follow strict Islamic laws) treat woman. Personally, this last points makes me feel that a great majority of Muslims are bigots and ignorant to the rights of others. When most Muslim women are given the “choice” to do X or Z, then I will be more open to listing to Muslims concerns about cartoons.
