The talk of 12 planets in stead of 9 was just a proposal. Today, the International Astronomical Union voted to take away the ‘planet’ status from Pluto. Now, there are only 8 ‘classical’ planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. There is a new category called dwarf planets that includes Pluto along with Ceres and 2003 UB313, which is the largest dwarf planet. Charon, the moon of Pluto, doesn’t get any special designation.
