Fall 2008

September 30th, 2008

Once again, it is that time of the year when I am so happy to be alive. Summer is officially over and we are one week into the Fall season. To me, Fall brings so many wonderful things:

colorful leaves – colorful sunrises – cool crisp mornings – apples – pumpkins – quietly falling leaves – crunchy leaves under feet – hot coffee – hot cider – cider donuts – hot chocolate – flannel shirts – football – fiery sunsets – cool clear dark nights – fattening up for winter

To celebrate Fall, I am resurrecting my photo website with some fall photos taken in the last few days. Check it out.

Another nice thing about Fall is the end of Summer weekend traffic along north-east corridor. Over the weekend, it took us only 3 hours to travel 180 miles (as it always should) to NJ. During Summer, it could take 5 hours on a good day. From now on, no road trips to NYC, NJ or Washington from April to September.

Men’s room

September 29th, 2008
  • Is it so hard for people to push that little lever and flush the urinal after using it? Many times, I walk upto one and find it full of stinky yellow liquid. It is just disgusting!
  • I notice some men take off their belt, unbuckle their pants and open the front completely while at the urinal instead of just unzipping the fly. To me, they are saying one of the two following things:
    • My instrument is so huge that it can’t come out of that little slit in the front of the pants.
    • I have leaky plumbing. If I try to use the fly, I am going to soil my clothes.

Question to men readers: What do you do? Use your fly or open pants? Please explain why, if you choose the second option.

Second born

September 29th, 2008

In many mythological stories, God (or Devil) offers you eternal life or unimaginable wealth or some such bounty in exchange for your first-born child. I can never imagine exchanging my first-born for anything. There is nothing as valuable as her.

But, with the second-born…. he is just pushing me to the limit and testing my patience with all the “terrible two” tantrums. Nothing I do is good for him. I just can’t keep him happy. I am ready for negotiations to exchange this kid. And I don’t even want eternal life or unimaginable wealth. Something lesser would be fine, too. How about just take him and I’ll pay for transportation as well?
– It is not going to work. I am sure if anyone takes him, they’ll bring him right back.

OK! I am just kidding. Try to take him away from me, and I’ll rip your arms out.

Saraarrrgghhhh

September 26th, 2008

Another interview with Sarah Palin and another shiver down my spine… Read about it here. Even though the idea of her becoming the next VP and quite possibly POTUS, scares the shit out of me, I want her to get elected and be useful just like the current President by providing lots of humor to the world.

If Obama gets elected, it is going to be very tough 4 years for Letterman, Stewart, Maher and company.

Nigerian email scam

September 18th, 2008

Those emails asking for help in getting money out of Nigerian banks, have scam written all over them very obviously. I always wondered why the senders spend time and energy sending those emails. In 2007, about $100million were sent to these scammers from USA. The scamees sent about $2000 on average. That makes about 50,000 gullible people that fell for this in one year.

No wonder that the polls show a gap of only 2 percentage points between Obama and McCain in this presidential election.

Sedaris

September 11th, 2008

David Sedaris’ newest book, When You Are Engulfed in Flames was just like his other books: A collection of random essays. Many of the essays in this book were focused on his cigarette habit and quitting the nicotine addiction. As always, I loved his writing style and humor. Also, I listened to the audiobook and it was a pleasure to listen David read his own book. I think it works better when the author narrates the book.

I’ll get an opportunity to see him live on October 3rd. I received a pair of tickets as a ‘thank you gift’ for my donation during the public radio fund-raiser.

Lost AT&T phone

September 11th, 2008

V lost her phone during our Disney trip. It wasn’t brought to ‘lost&found’ at the hotel and we didn’t get a call from anyone who found it. It is either in a storm drain getting washed out to the ocean or if someone found it, they decided to keep it. There was no misuse as we canceled the number promptly. If anyone finds her pink Nokia 6085 in Orlando, please contact us and we’ll send you a  reward.

To buy a phone, when you are not signing a new contract, is a costly affair. We decided to get a cheap ‘go phone’, which is a AT&T prepaid service. We were able to get a new SIM card for our old phone number from AT&T and we now use the go phone with our postpaid account. V will get a new fancy phone when our contract is up for renewal, just about 23 months from now.
