Man on the moon

Chat in the car this morning.

Adit: Where is the man on the moon?
Me: There is no moon in the sky, so we can’t see that man.
Adit: Where is the moon?
Me: Don’t you remember that moon goes to bed in daytime and the Sun goes to bed in nighttime?
Adit: Yes. But, I hope that man is not sleeping.
Me: Why?
Adit: If he sleeps then who will drive the moon? It will stay stuck.

Just a passing thought..you never add a ‘the’ before moon. I know it is not English, so it has to do something with the definition of the celestial object. Can you fill me up on that. And why a ‘the’ before the sun then?

@deven Wow! First of all, I am the last person who would know anything about the intricacies of English spelling and grammar. As far as I know, ‘the’ is used before both Sun and Moon when you are referring to the ones from our solar system. I am probably totally wrong about this.

Where did he get that from? Were you listening to R.E.M.? Am curious…
Its interesting that he thinks that moon is a “vehicle” or that it needs to be driven around in sky! Cute!
