Phir Mile Sur — fail
On India’s 60th republic day, there was a lot of buzz on social networks about a new version of the amazing song, “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara”. It is called “Phir Mile Sur”. I really loved the original song from 1988 and wanted to see the updated version (part 1 and part 2) despite warnings from many people about its badness. I had to watch it myself to find out how bad it was and it is truly horrible. First of all, it is 3 times as long as the original and did I say that it is horrendous? It shows what is wrong with today’s India: unduly high importance/reverence towards Bollywood stars and Rahman’s electronic music which is mediocre at best.
Friends, I have taken a bullet for you. If you haven’t seen the new version yet, please don’t. Here is a link for the original song again. Watch it 3 times instead of the new crappy version.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The original song had Bollywood stars too, but along with them famous Indian personalities from every walk of life and more importantly, the common Indian person. Seems like nobody really cares about the common man (or woman) any more, thanks to the Bollywoodisation of all things Indian. Speaking of which, I missed Saif and Kareena in the new version

I haven’t seen, will not be seeing the clips, so don’t know which “namoonas” they have, but V, you “missed” seeing Kareena probably because she was so busy fixing her hair, they fired her
I agree completely. It’s got these lines where they have tried to mix the original music with western touch. It corrupts the original music beyond repair. Rehman screwed the eternal Vande Mataram (from Anandmath) a few years ago. He has done it again…
did you just say “electronic music” of Rahman? I’ve been trying to put this point across to my friends for many years now.. thanks.
good blog man. here’s another one that might interest you
9-point something on Phir Mile Sur .. A detailed review on why the new version cannot come close to the original and pretty much failed to capture Indians at large
