After watching the new Apple-Beatles ad on TV during football, I was humming the song “I want to hold you haaaaannnd, I want to hold your hand…” That prompted a response from the kids.
Ashwini: because, I love you.
Adit: because, I am scared.
Now, I know why they hold my hand when they do.

It was another great Thanksgiving that we celebrated with many friends and family. With 12 kids running around in the house, I think it was the first time with no fights and no tears. Good to see them growing up and play with each other nicely.
This year’s menu:
Appetizers:
Home made Chex mix
Assorted cheese and crackers
Spinach dip and corn dip with baguette
Brandied apples with goat cheese
Butternut squash dip
Spiced hot apple cider (with optional brandy)
Entrees:
Acorn squash stuffed with wild rice
Cranberry delight
Broccoli with cheese and grapes
Cabbage with green moong and pomegranate
Broccoli and rice casserole
Green bean casserole
Roasted Brussel sprouts
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Cranberry sauce
Pasta Salad
An Australian wine called “The full fifteen”. It was quite nice and we didn’t open any other wine. Thankfully, I had 7-8 bottles of the full fifteen.
Desserts:
Cheesecake
Death by chocolate
Jello with fruits
Jewish apple cake
Pumpkin pie
Cupcakes (for celebrating a birthday)

It is just amazing that for a tiny fraction of waking time, the kids are well behaved and are actually nice to each other. As a parent, one wants to remember and cherish these rare moments.
This morning, I dropped them off outside the school as we missed the school bus. Ashwini offered to help Adit get to his classroom so that I didn’t have to park the car and go inside with them. It was just picture perfect to watch them walk together on the sidewalk holding each other’s hand.
I couldn’t take a picture as I didn’t want to hold up other cars behind me. But, this following picture is almost exactly what I saw. I know the number of kids is not right but, it was a similar image. All you Hindi movie buffs, let’s see if you can recognize this. If not, shame on you.

One of the new things that Ashwini is learning in second grade is writing ’snapshots’. The kids are supposed to describe a scene using all five senses. The teacher gave them a handout with several examples of different verbs to use for different senses and Ashwini is having a lot of fun writing her snapshots. Here are a couple of examples that her teacher gave to me at parent-teacher conference.
