QOD
I always used to say, “statistics can prove anything that you want from your data”. Yesterday, I heard a more elegant way of saying the same: Data, when tortured long enough, will confess to anything.

The Cog
Here is the original Honda ad made using spare parts and here is a video with similar idea seen in the ad, but is more elaborate.
The Honda video at least seems to be one shot unless there is some super-slick editing, but there is no way of telling if the second video was made in one shot or not. If the whole thing really worked like that, they are great engineers.
Thanks for the link, Mahesh.

Toys for Adit
Adit was a very happy boy last week as it was his birthday and Santa dropped by too. He received a lot of presents from us, but my favorite ones were sent by his Sujitkaka.

These cars must have been very popular lately. I wanted to buy more and had a hard time finding them online. Finally, found what I wanted at Mad Cat Toys. - Kikkerland windup toys:
These beautiful and minimalistic mechanical critters are designed by Chico Bicalho. They walk around and make sparks. There is a whole series of these things. I should try to get all the rest of them.

Nike Freestyle
Nike Freestlye must be one of the coolest TV ad ever. I remember watching in awe, every time it came on about 5-6 years ago. The person in this 30 sec version is not one of the NBA superstars, but 19 year old amateur, Luis DaSilva. He just handles the ball in an amazing way. He was interviewed on one of the episodes of my favorite radio show, “This American Life“. This is the first act of the show. It is about 17 minutes long and starts after about 3 minutes of introduction.
Here is the longer two and half minute version with the NBA and WNBA stars. If you have never seen this before or don’t remember, it is definitely worth watching. I bet you’ll watch it at least 3 times before you can stop.

Coinstar
Decided to cash in a big coin jar that sat on the kitchen table. I didn’t like using coinstar because they charged counting fees (8.9c per dollar). They still charge the same fee, but if you decide to take a “Amazon.com” gift certificate instead of cash, there is no counting fee. Now, that is a good deal. Here is what the receipt said:
| Coin | Number counted |
| Dollars | 7 |
| Half-Dollars | 1 |
| Quarters | 202 |
| Dimes | 868 |
| Nickels | 339 |
| Pennies | 1196 |
For all the coins that we collected during our 5 years in Michigan, the total came out to be $173.71. Good enough amount to apply towards buying a camera lens from Amazon.com.

Check out these cool new puzzles, called SuDoku. The idea is to fill the grid so that every column, every row and every 3×3 box contains the digits 1 to 9.

This one is quite easy. Here is one, that is a little more difficult. Some links that have a lot of these puzzles…
