Blizzard of 09
The snow was supposed to start on mid-day Saturday. We were worried that it was going to affect Adit’s birthday party but, it held off till late evening/night on Saturday. We woke up Sunday morning to find a foot of snow on the ground. There was a fierce wind all night that whipped up the snow into some drifts close to the house that were more than 2 feet deep. This was probably the most amount of snow I had to clear at one time. I started with a full tank of gas on the snowblower and had to refill halfway through. Kids came out to play in the snow but, it was too deep to get the sled out and run around with it. Here are some photos.

Kids talk
It is so funny to just listen in on Adit and Ashwini’s conversations in the car. Here is something from this morning.
Adit: I am going to grow up and be a football player.
Ashwini: I thought you were going to be a cook…
Adit: I am going to be a cook, too. And a football player.
Ashwini: OK. I get it. You can play football in the daytime, then come home and be a cook in the evening.
Adit: Yeah. That’s right.
Ashwini: Maybe, you can grow up, get married, play football, cook food for your wife.
Adit: I don’t want to get married.
Ashwini: But, you have to. When you grow up, you have to find a wife and get married. And then, you’ll have to take care of kids too along with playing football and cooking food.
Adit: OOOOKKK. I’ll get married. I’ll find a girl with a big belly and get married.
Ashwini: No, no, no. You get married to a regular girl. Then, she’ll get a big belly and make kids.
At this point, I just burst out in laughter and unfortunately, that made them stop this interesting dialog. Wish it had gone on longer.
Diwali and Halloween passed by without me posting any pictures. So, here are a couple to make up for the lapse.

Noise pollution
It is a well documented fact that noise pollution is harmful to physical and mental health. More than 95% of noise in our house can be attributed to this one single individual resident. I am not sure if there is any connection between these two sentences but, there could be!

Swimming goggles
A few months ago, when Ashwini started going to swimming class, there was another 5 year girl, Olivia, in that group. She had more swimming experience than Ashwini and we used to admire how she swam like a fish. Now, Ashwini is at that stage. She has come a long way and has become a strong swimmer. It feels so good to see her use all different strokes and swim so well. I highly recommend her teacher, Meg, for your toddler/preschooler. Here is information about Miss Meg’s class.
Adit watches Ashwini swim and wants to join the swimming class as well. Here is our conversation from this afternoon as we watched Ashwini swim.
Adit: When I start swimming class, you’ll have to buy me swimming goggles and swimming cap.
Me: You don’t need a cap, Adit. You have short hair and you can swim without a cap.
Adit: OK. How about goggles?
Me: Oh, yeah. We’ll get goggles for you so, the water doesn’t go in your eyes.
Adit: You’ll have to get goggles for my mouth too.
Me: Goggles for your mouth???
Adit: Yes, like the scuba diver, so water doesn’t go in my mouth.

Man on the moon
Chat in the car this morning.
Adit: Where is the man on the moon?
Me: There is no moon in the sky, so we can’t see that man.
Adit: Where is the moon?
Me: Don’t you remember that moon goes to bed in daytime and the Sun goes to bed in nighttime?
Adit: Yes. But, I hope that man is not sleeping.
Me: Why?
Adit: If he sleeps then who will drive the moon? It will stay stuck.
